I am proud of the depth of opportunities we offer students and the extra time and support that our staff commit to ensure these events happen for our community. We hope that the students have a well-deserved break. INFORMATION - LEARNING OBJECTIVE REPORTSThis afternoon, Learning Objective Reports will be published on the Schoolbridge Parent Portal and emailed out directly to students and caregivers. These will report on student academic progress over the course of the term. The front page of the report will provide guidance on expected curriculum levels for each year level. Parents can discuss the report with their students and support them with reflecting upon the next steps with their learning. Student reflections on these reports will guide their goal setting and conversations with their hub coach at the beginning of next term.

COLLABORATION - CULTURAL FESTIVALLast week a team of students and teachers worked together to present the community HPSS cultural evening. The evening was a colourful night filled with various cultural performances, food trucks, activities and beautiful decorations. Overall we had a successful night of almost 2000 people attending, including families, community members and different primary schools. There was a great amount of diversity of cultures shown throughout the night with a unique lion dance, energetic performance from the school's K-pop group K.O, an exciting surprise Bollywood performance from the HPSS teachers, a powerful theatrical take on Kapa Haka and many more. We also had a variety of bright and beautifully presented cultural foods made by our HPSS Q1 and Q2 students and interesting cultural experiences through our activities, Japanese calligraphy, lolly lei bracelets and henna designs. The event brought everyone together, showcasing the uniqueness and diversity among the community. Overall the cultural event was a fantastic experience and success and we can’t wait for next year's celebration! Nabira Saeed

PERSONAL EXCELLENCE - YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCHEME CHALLENGE NATIONAL WINNERSCongratulations to Butta Up for winning the Young Enterprise Scheme Challenge 3 Sales and Promotion for West Auckland and for coming 3rd place across all of New Zealand in the challenge. Butta Up is a student business consiting of Lara Skeens, Tia Solomua, Gianna Pereira, Marti Mercado, Keegan Lehrke, Sumaira Ali, and Abigail Henare. The product they have sold this year is a body butter using tallow as their main ingredient. Challenge 3 focused on the variant sales methods and promotional methods each business used. Another Q3 business, FernFreshNZ, consisting of Zeedan Tausif, Jeremy Lee, Amelila Mapobpan, Xander Taylor, Levi Gallagher, Mustafa Karim Chagani, and Arvin Akhavian also competed strongly in the West Auckland Competition receiving 20 points. What stood out for Butta Up and resulted in them becoming both the regional winner and the 3rd place winner for all New Zealand was their resilience, innovation, and collaboration. Both businesses have achieved high scores throughout the three challenges they participated in and are still working hard, aiming to win the Regional Awards on October 21st. The last challenge that will decide whether they will win the overall Regional Awards is the Annual Review challenge. It will give them a chance to summarise and reflect on their business for this year. These young people are working tirelessly on their annual review on top of preparing for L3 Business Studies external exams. More news to come in October so keep your eyes out for the pānui. COLLABORATION - TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORILast week, during Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori, our school participated in the national 2024 Whakataetae Reo Māori Kura. We finished as the top secondary school in the country, placing 3rd overall among all kura. Additionally, 50 of our students ranked in the top 20% nationwide.
Congratulations to Portia Cliffin for finishing first in Aotearoa, Adrian Matthews-Neeling for coming in second, and Eman Tuazon for securing third place! Thank you also for the staff and students who supported Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori by embracing te reo and to our Food Technology students who served Te Ao Māori inspired food to both our students and staff during the week.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP - ANNOUNCEMENTCongratulations to Rylla Rarere who, in a hard fought nomination and voting process, has been voted in as Student Board of Trustees Representative for 2025. Nominations for Student Leadership Opportunities for 2025 are currently open. Students have been notified of the process for applying and information regarding the opportunities have been emailed to all students. We look forward to announcing our 2025 student leaders at the end of next term.

SPORTING EXCELLENCE - KI O RAHIA couple of weeks ago, a small group of people and I attended the seniors Ki o Rahi regionals tournament. This was such an amazing opportunity that I was able to take part in! Our team was very successful as we won our grade, undefeated, even though this was the first Ki o Rahi tournament we had attended. Our team worked so well together and represented our school with pride. Special shout out to Olivia Jurgens (Year 9) who won the MVP female player in our grade. One BIG thank you to Whaea J for giving us this opportunity, organising this team, and training us. Also, another BIG thanks for Nash filling in on the day to take us there. I encourage any student to take opportunities like this because you will get more out of it than you think! CONNECTIONS - INTERNSHIP STORYI have had the opportunity to intern at Barfoot & Thompson Greenhithe from the beginning of Term 3, where I have worked with some incredibly hard-working sales associates, residents and property managers. A typical day for me constantly changes; I can either be at the reception desk doing the admin work, learning all about the legal side of selling and buying a property, or I could be going to inspections with the property manager, and sometimes I go along to the auctions. My weekly tasks at Barfoot & Thompson include creating and posting new listings, updating listings, making sure files are up to date, and doing any little jobs that need to be done. This experience has taught me so much about the property market, the legal side of running a business, how to handle clients in real estate, and all the work that goes into selling and managing a property. This internship has helped me discover how much I enjoy the varieties and challenges of the Real Estate business and marketing. Emily Simmonds
